Its a new day and age for online communities in general. From so many social communities like the means of Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and not to forget tinder, people market themselves on things they eat, where they have been recently, what do they plan to the following year and how they are going to spend their nights. Thats how social communities today are fostered with each other.
What is a social network? is it maze of all information stored about your personal lives, is it a trend that we follow nowadays? Social network is a tool that creates value for you by fostering online communications and enable people to interact with each other.
This is personally my favorite past time where I gain my dankmeme's knowledge and also things that interest me on a daily basis. With over 250 million users worldwide reddit has created ideas, communities on the same ideas. From an original post to comments the information flow is phenomenal. Something that still kept me hooked onto reddit was the dedication in the r/askscience where users posted calculated terms in astronomy and other users helped to analyze the information. You would consider reddit to be an ocean for communities ranging with different shared purposes and satisfy the social object theory and create the base for viral videos, images and stories.
Reddit communities have guidelines to be followed that are put up by mods or moderators who keep a close watch for standards of behavior as well as maintain the subreddit.
Here is an interesting read in a life of a r/science redditor. Do come back to this page!
Audience engagement on reddit varies from sub-reddit to sub-reddit with highly concentrated subscribers in r/askreddit, r/worldnews and also specific sub-reddit's for instance r/gameofthrones.
Look at how customized this reddit page is, it consists of the kindom flags, the iron throne. that how engaged these communities are towards their interest. We normally associate that the biggest subscriber networks are at the likes of youtube. This subreddit has : DRUMROLLL.........
With over 1 million subscribers and over 6000 users actively lurking in the sub-reddit, this shows the scale of commitment to this idea and program. But lurk at your own risk due to heavy spoilers.
The social capital cascading on reddit is when how connections are made, with a simple dm you can at times reap a lot of information. Let give you an instance when I decided to move to Melbourne for my eduction.
This was me asking a feedback for my shortlisted universities that were Monash and R.M.I.T at the time. This was me surveying and looking for answers when I did not have anywhere to go but r/Melbourne. This helped bridging their social capital and providing their information to me.
Hey but just ignore that first comment though! Monash lecturer's are great.
With ask me anything forums by professionals, actors, scientists and musicians, reddit provides a medium for every user to interact with each other and they act as the referent power for the users and provide insights to their life and knowledge.
As a social community do join reddit because the amount of information that you can tap at your fingertips.Explore their sub-reddits offered.
Brands are here to are here to take full advantage of the social communities that are present in social media spaces. Brands that actively engage with their consumers instills loyalty, for instance
Poo-Pouri is a spray that can be applied before using the washroom so that it came limit the odor once you head out. Look at how they turned a commercial to an infomercial. It also raked over 37 million views, this shows how the brand can tap into different social communities and engage their consumers.
Reddit provides platforms for brands to communicate with the reddit community.Ikea launched their community into reddit and posted the following picture
The following add created the reddit community to comment over a 1,000 times and at 2 million views it shows that Ikea has tapped the right way to market on reddit. This add was customized to reddit's users preferences.
Brands are also can engage more with the reddit community by having their founders host an AMA(ask me anything) with Barack Obama representing the United States of America.POTUS had sponsored the event and provided half hour of the former presidents time for the reddit community.
This Forbes article also highlights other company's founder for the likes of Intel, Twitch and yelp with a very popular rating.
Another brand that been able to tap the gaming market is none other than Rocket League.
r/rocketleague has managed to get its fans at the right place with GIF's of their favorite shot, and real update on ranking games.I was really hooked onto this game with my console but watching these guys, I have been put to shame. The brand also listens to their communitys feedback and tries to promote the solution for that bugs. This relationship between the brand and the consumers are co-existent. Check out this GIF
When the brand is able to create a buzz and as well as expose itself to the different social communities, they have understood how to market themselves.
This post was mainly to concede on how social networks and communities can interact with each other and further understand reddit's online communities and how they actively engage each of the communities based on their interest.Brands that focus on their consumers and are able to nurture values that are created by online communities. Take Ikea and Rocket league for example, they have active communities and users are always online to see their latest updates.
